TRIENNIAL
Exploring some of the most critical issues of our time through practices that are embracing of cutting edge technologies, from 3D printing to robotics, as well as performance, film, painting, drawing, installation and fashion design, tapestry and sculpture. The inaugural NGV Triennial offers an opportunity to engage with some of the most vital and significant international contemporary art and design, in a large scale exhibition that takes you upon meandering journey. Work from the likes Ron Mueck, Nick Cave, Yayoi Kusama and Xu Zhen are just the tip of the iceberg. There is even a work here that is successfully designed to en-capture the essence of Melbourne, through olfactory sensation. In bringing the people and the works in the NGV Triennial together, five framing propositions emerged – five words that encapsulate and assist in communicating the common ground, overlapping concerns and implications of the artists, designers and their works: Movement, Change, Virtual, Body, and Time.
These propositions throw up a set of open-ended scenarios that seek to capture the defining issues, moods and conditions of our time.
