MFW XVIII / GLOBAL INDIGENOUS RUNWAY
by Jessi Ryan
Inspired by the tribal and cultural stories featuring female indigenous figures from around the world, Our Women, was a powerhouse runway featuring the works of upcoming First Nations designers, performers and models. With interesting use of fabrics, silhouettes and weave, here the traditional melded with the more contemporary, creating looks that took us from runway to ready-to-wear. Basking in the light of the Leonard French ceiling in National Gallery of Victoria’s Great Hall, it was a night full of triumph that showcased some of the most innovative fashion likely to be seen this Melbourne Fashion Week.
